When is a Permit Required?
Check with your local building department for permitting requirements and exemptions.
A building permit may be required for any residential deck that exceeds 200 square feet in area, when located more than 30 inches above grade at any point, when attached to a dwelling, or when it serves as the main exit door of the dwelling.
